MyAccountingLab New Features for June 2009!

On June 27, 2009, MyAccountingLab will be updated with the new features that you have been asking for! Read below to learn about the new features and the release details. This new release gives students more “I Get It” moments, while providing you more options and flexibility for your course!

New Features

  • Assignable Media Learning Aids
  • You can now assign media learning aids within MyAccountingLab, including videos, Demo Docs, PowerPoints or ebook. These media assignments can be used as prerequisites for other assignments or as stand-alone assignments for a grade.

  • Customizable Study Plan
  • You can now customize the Study Plan to fit your students’ needs. Simply select the objectives and questions that students need to work and set the percentage level that constitutes the mastery of a topic. Students who successfully complete "Needs Study" questions will see a new icon that reminds them to retest to prove their mastery.

  • Ability to Rename the "Other" Category
  • You can now rename the "Other" category in the Gradebook allowing you more flexibility in your column headings.

  • Enhanced Security for Tests and Homework
  • To enhance the integrality of grades, students will not be able to launch other MyAccountingLab windows while they are working in homework and tests. This feature adds higher security to tests because students will not be able to launch their Homework, Study Plan, or review any previous work while working in a test.

  • New Course ID-based Enrollment
  • Instructors and their students who access their course from MyAccountingLab.com will see a new, simplified course enrollment process that uses Course IDs in place of multiple drop-down lists. Instructors can create a "first day of class" document that contains the Course ID and simple instructions for students to register and enroll in their course. Read more about the new Course ID feature.

Mark your calendars! To implement these new features, we have scheduled a release for Saturday, June 27, 2009. The estimated downtime will be 12:00 AM (midnight) to 3 PM Eastern Daylight Time. Please do not schedule tests or other assignments during this time. MyAccountingLab courses will be temporarily unavailable.

No new player installation is required with this release.

Coming in August 2009

  • Instructions for Individual Questions
  • While creating assignments, instructors will have the option of adding instructions to individual questions, giving students tips or reminders on how to work a particular question.

  • More Granular Advanced Exports
  • Student performance on assignments and the Study Plan down to the objective level will be available for export. Instructors who select this new Advanced Export type can choose from a myriad of parameters, including new options such as median score, total time spent per student, and median time spent per chapter. (Median time spent, as well as average time spent, will also be available on Item Analysis pages and exports.)

Compatibility with Microsoft Internet Explorer® 8

On March 19, 2009, Microsoft made Internet Explorer 8 (IE 8) part of its update system. We are working to make MyAccountingLab® compatible with IE 8, and in the meantime it will work using the Compatibility View option. You will not need to take any action to enable this. The site will detect IE 8 and have it automatically imitate the previous web browsing functionality in IE 7.

For updated information on Pearson’s product support of IE 8, read the current 24/7 Support article on IE 8 . Click the Notify Me by Email if this Answer is Updated button in the article to keep apprised of how Pearson is working to support this important release.
